2mm hook
Stylecraft Special DK in Kelly Green, and Scheepjes in Almelo
Polyester toy filling
Fibres in Burgundy, White and Black needle felting*
Needle felting tool*
1 x Pipe cleaner
Pins to place pieces before sewing together
Darning needle
Stitch markers (I prefer using scrap yarn as “stitch markers”)
* Please note that I have used needle felting to create the eyes. Needle felting is still quite new to me so I will not be including instructions on how to do this. There are lots of instructions out there if you do want to give it a go. You may want to look into alternative ways of creating the eyes.
SIZE
Chikorita is approximately 14cm tall, and 5.5cm in width, and approximately 7.5cm from front to back.Weight: 35grams (this includes all materials used to make Chikorita)
STITCHES & ABBREVIATIONS – UK ENGLISH
ch chain
dc double crochet
htr half treble
fls front loops
bls back loops
bldc back loop double crochet; double crochet using the back loops only
fldc front loop double crochet; double crochet using the front loops only

ASSEMBLY
Assemble in the same order the pattern is written. I would recommend using a photo of Chikorita as reference for best possible outcome. Pin all the pieces in place before sewing to make sure it looks right. Once all the crocheted pieces are attached use a needle felting tool to create the eyes.

The head and body will be worked as on piece from top to bottom.

Using Almelo:
Round 1: dc 6 in Magic Ring (6)
R2: Inc in all sts around (12)
R3: (dc, inc) x 6 (18)
R4: (dc, inc, dc) x 6 (24)

R11: bldc 15 in bls of Round 10, dc 15 as normal
R12: fldc 15 in unworked fls of Round 10, dc 15 as normal

Fasten off Kelly Green yarn and continue with Almelo:

Insert the pipe cleaner in the top of Chikorita’s head, pull half way through and fold together. Cut to size if required. Insert into the leaf and sew the leaf to the head.
NEEDLE FELTING
I used Burgundy, Black and White fibres to needle felt Chikorita’s eyes and mouth.
SHINY CHIKORITA
Want to make a Shiny Chokorita? Easy!
Just replace the Kelly Green with Gold, and instead of Almelo use Citron.
I've also made the eyes a little bit lighter than the original Chikorita by using Brown, Burgundy, White and Black fibres.
