YARN & HOOK
2mm hook
Stylecraft Special DK in Silver and Blush
6mm black safety eyes
Polyester toy filling
Pink and Black fibre for needle felting*
Needle Felting Tool
Pipe cleaner or wire (approx. 30cm long)
Pins to place pieces before sewing together
Darning needle
Stitch markers (I prefer using scrap yarn as “stitch markers”)
* Please note that I have used needle felting to create the blushing cheeks and nostrils. Needle felting is still quite new to me, so I will not be including instructions on how to do this. There are lots of instructions out there if you do want to give it a go. You may want to look in to alternative ways of creating these.
SIZE
Spoink is approximately 8.5cm tall (excluding the tail), and 5cm in width (7.5cm when you count the tiny arms), and approximately 5cm from front to back. The tail is approximately 15cm longs when straight.Weight: 25grams (this includes all materials used to make Spoink)
STITCHES & ABBREVIATIONS – UK ENGLISH
ch chain
dc double crochet
inc dc 2 in one st
dec decrease; insert hook in the front loop of the next two sts, yarn over, pull through both loops, y.o. and pull through remaining two loops –> one dc placed into two sts

ASSEMBLY
Assemble in the same order the pattern is written. Pin all the pieces in place before sewing to make sure it looks right. I would recommend using a photo of Spoink as reference for best possible outcome.

HEAD & BODY
The head and body will be worked as on piece from top to bottom.

It’s time to attach the 6mm black safety eyes. Insert the first eye in Round 9 st number 11, and the second eye in same round in st number 18. Fasten off. Weave in loose end by inserting darning needle in the front loop of each st and pull tight to close the hole.
PINK BALL

EARS
Yarn: Silver
Make 2
Round 1: dc 4 in Magic Ring (4)
R2: inc 2, dc 2 (6)
R3: dc, inc 2, dc 3 (8)
R4: dc 2, inc 2, dc 4 (10)
Fasten off and leave long end for sewing. Note that the side with the increases, should be facing out to the side as this will appear longer, and will make the ears point upwards.
NOSE
Yarn: Silver
The nose will be created by starting off with chains and working around them to make an oval shape
Ch7
Round 1: inc in second ch from hook, dc in the next 4 chains, and inc in the last ch. Continue to the other side of the chains: inc in the first ch, dc in the next ch, decrease in the next two chs, dc in the next ch and inc in the last ch (15)
R2: dc 15 in the back loops only (15)
Fasten off and leave long end for sewing.
BLUSH & NOSTRILS
I’ve used pink and black fibre to needlefelt the blushing cheeks and black nostrils.
ARMS
Yarn: Silver
Make 2
Round 1: dc 4 in Magic Ring (4)
R2: (inc, dc) x 2 (6)
R3: dc 6
R4: (inc, dc 2) x 2 (8)
R5: (inc, dc 3) x 2 (10)
R6: dc 3 – leave the rest of the round unworked.
Fasten off and leave long end for sewing. The last 3 dc of the last round should be at the top.
TAIL
Yarn: Silver
Round 1: dc 4 in Magic Ring (4)
R2: inc, dc 3 (5)
R3-42: dc 5 – approximately 15cm, or even longer if preferredFasten off and leave long end for sewing.Insert pipe cleaner and pull half way through. I have placed my pipe cleaner around a couple of stitches of Round 7 on the back of Spoink. Fold the pipe cleaner in two, cut to measure if needed and insert it into the crocheted tail and sew piece in place. Once finished shape the tail into a spiral.
