STITCHES & ABBREVIATIONS – UK ENGLISH

inc dc 2 in one st
dec decrease; insert hook in the front loop of the next two sts, yarn over, pull through both loops, y.o. and pull through remaining two loops –> one dc placed into two sts
ASSEMBLY
Assemble in the same order the pattern is written. I would recommend using a photo of Natu as reference for best possible outcome. Pin all the pieces in place before sewing to make sure it looks right, including the felt pieces. Once all the crocheted pieces are attached use fabric glue to attach the felt pieces.

R17: (dec, dc) x 6 (12)
R18: dec x 6(6)
Fasten off. Weave in loose end by inserting darning needle in the front loop of each st and pull tight to close the hole.
BEAK
Yarn: Citron
Round 1: dc 4 in Magic Ring (4)
R2: inc in all sts around (8)
R3: dc 8
R4: (inc, dc 3) x 2 (10)
R5: dc 4
Fasten of and leave a long end to sew the piece onto the head.
FEATHER
Yarn: Lipstick
Round 1: dc 4 in Magic Ring (4)
R2: inc, dc 3 (5)
R3-6: dc 5
R7: dec, dc 3 (4)
R8: dc 4
Fasten of and leave a long end to sew the piece onto top of the head.
TAIL
Yarn: Lipstick
The tail will be worked in rows – start by chaining 6
Row 1: dc in the first chain from hook, dc in each of the next three chains, inc in the last ch (6), ch 1 and turn
Row 2: dc 6 (6), ch 1 and turn
Row 3: dc in each of the next four back loops, inc in the fifth back loop (leave the last st unworked), (6), ch 1 and turn
Row 4: dc 6 (6), ch 1 and turn
Row 5: dc in each of the next four back loops, inc in the fifth back loop (leave the last st unworked), (6), ch 1 and turn
Row 6: dc 6
Fasten of and leave a long end to sew the piece onto body. You’ll see that after working in the back loops on some of the rows the tail naturally folds into three sides, so make sure you keep these folded when sewing onto body as if it was a square with the last side missing.
WINGS
Yarn: Citron and Black and Lipstick
Starting with Citron
Round 1: dc 5 in Magic Ring (5)
R2: inc in all sts around (10)
R3: dc 10
R4: (dc 4, inc) x 2 (12)
Change to Black
R5: dc 12 in the back loops
R6-8: dc 12
R9: dec x 6 (6)
Fasten off. Weave in loose end by inserting darning needle in the front loop of each st and pull tight to close the hole.
Use Lipstick to sew three red lines on each wing. I’ve doubled up on the thread to make lines thicker.
FELT EYES
Use White and Black felt to cut out the eyes. I would recommend gluing these on at the very end.
FEET
Insert the red pipe cleaner at the bottom of Natu’s body and pull half way through. Shape the feet on both sides.
