My first YouTube Tutorial

I created my YouTube channel all the way back in late 2020 with the intention of posting videos of my new amigurumi patterns. Here we are almost 3 years later… Long story short: it’s finally happening.

I can’t promise how consistent I will be as I’m struggling a little bit to juggle my hobby and full time job. But I’m hoping that once I can get this started I can get some sort of routine going.

I actually started filming all the way back in April this year. The first video I started was more of a test than anything, and that’s what I’m sharing with you today. I wanted to create a short video to test my camera and lighting equipment, and generally just my set up. Please excuse some of the out of focus shots… I’m working on that and will hopefully improve in my next videos. For this one I also wanted to use a pattern that I’ve created ages ago and was familiar with, and also one that I get a lot of questions about: Psyduck. And more specifically the beak.

So here we are! My first YouTube patten video where I create Psyduck’s beak. You can find the full pattern here.

One of the reasons why I chose this part of the pattern is that it starts off with a ch 8, and then you work in the round. Which I think a lot of people sometimes find a bit confusing. How can you work in the round when you’ve started with so many chains?!?

This has also given be the opportunity to play around with graphics and the way I want my videos to look. I didn’t want to read out instructions in my incredibly dull, self consious voice, so I have opted for music with the pattern instructions as subtitles throughout. If you listen closely you’ll hear a little mouseclick everytime there’s a change in the pattern subtitles. I’m sure there will be a few (or a lot) of people who would’ve preferred a chatty instruction video, but for now I’m going to stick to how I want to make my videos. It may evolve over time. We will see.

I originally wanted to start off my YouTube patterns with a whole new amigurumi, and save this Psyduck Beak video for later on down the line. I though this would look better, or attract more people. But you know what - the video is ready now, so let’s just jump right in! No more excuses or putting things off.

In May earlier this year, I actually started filming the first part of an unreleased pattern. And then I just hit a wall creatively. It’s overwhelming having so many ideas and not enough time. So I did what I do best: nothing…

I plan to release all my patterns in several parts, so there will be one video for, let’s say, the head, and another for the body etc. This will all depend on what I feel makes sense for each amigurumi. Since I really only have evenings and weekends for any creativity I want to do one part of a pattern at a time to make sure I put out the best quality videos I can possibly make. So let’s see how that works. This is another thing that may evolve over time.

Is it weird that I’m oddly excited about being able to create playlists on my channel for each of the patterns?

Anyway, if you follow me over on instagram and have seen the amigurumis I’ve made over the last year or so, you should have a good idea of what patterns will be coming. I would really, really appreciate if you would be so kind and subscribe over on YouTube and show your support over there.

And now, without further ado… My first ever YouTube pattern:

THANK YOU & ENJOY!

Please do not reprint, sell or claim the pattern as your own.

I’ve loved creating this pattern so please don’t forget to credit the pattern designer.
